A place with a story to tell
The history of Solar de Santo André
"Located in Largo de Santo André, Ponta Delgada city center, Solar de Santo André was built in the first decade of the 19th century by Luis Bernardo de Sousa Estrela and Da Joana Joaquina de Mello, his wife, remaining in the same family until today.” Many were the experiences, the stories, and the changes that this Solar - Portuguese for ‘manor house’ -, has seen throughout time, remaining, however, known as a house with an open door to others. Without forgetting the past, this manor house has been recuperated and is inaugurating a new cycle of projection into the future. After a major fire in 1990, whose water ended up destroying what the flames did not want to devour, it is once again through an open door that the house presents itself to others.”
